Let’s check if these 15 cool kitchen tricks really work

Every now and then we come across so-called ingenious and super useful kitchen tricks and hacks that promise to wash all of our household troubles away. But do they really work? The best way to find out is to check them in your kitchen, don’t you think?
We here at Bright Side believe that anyone can be an expert and together we can find out if those tips really work. Share your experience if you’ve already tried these tricks by marking your answer directly under the suggested trick.

Fresh bananas

Wrapping bananas with plastic wrap will keep a bunch fresh for longer. They won’t turn black, and the wrap will preserve the necessary natural moisture.

An onion cut in half

If you’re planning to keep an onion in the fridge, just spread some butter on the cut side and place it in a plastic bag. It won’t change color or go bad.

A half-eaten avocado

A half-eaten avocado won’t go bad or change color if you keep it in a container with a quarter of an onion. Onions help prevent oxidation.

To crack open a coconut

Pierce a hole, and drain the coconut juice. Preheat the oven to 400°F, and place your drained coconut in the oven for about 10-15 minutes. Soon the shell will crack, and you’ll easily get rid of it.

To stop an electric whisk splattering

The cream sprayed out over the mixing bowl again? Enough with those splattering disasters in your kitchen! Try using this trick: use a paper plate as a protective shield.

Oversalted food

If you happen to accidentally put too much salt in your soup, put in a slice of eggplant or potato and boil it for about 10 minutes. These veggies can absorb extra salt.

Fresh lettuce and spinach

If you’re going to keep lettuce or spinach in the refrigerator, separate the green layers with multiple sheets of paper towel. This trick will keep your salad greens fresh and prevent them from getting slimy.

Сhocolate curls

To get amazing chocolate curls you don’t actually need any special device. Just grab your potato peeler, and start the peeling process. Now you have beautiful chocolate curls to complement your desserts!

Shredding chicken breasts

Take fully cooked chicken breasts and place them into your mixer with the paddle attachment. Turn it to low. There you go: you have your chicken breasts shredded in the blink of an eye. Plus, your hands are clean!

Crunchy flakes and muesli

If any of your breakfast cereals went soft and you need to recrisp them, just spread your breakfast on a baking sheet and bake in the oven for about 10-15 minutes.

Test eggs for freshness

Check out this egg test: place an egg in a bowl of water and observe. If it sinks to the bottom, it’s fresh. If the egg starts to stand up and doesn’t touch the bottom, it’s still fresh, but use it as soon as possible. If it floats to the top, it’s no longer fresh. Just throw it away.

Clean mushrooms

If you wash mushrooms by holding them under running water, they lose a good deal of their natural flavor because of their porous structure. Some cooks suggest we clean mushrooms with a soft brush and wet paper towels.

Remove stuck-on food and grease

Mix some vinegar with water, pour the solution into your pot or pan, and let it boil for a couple of minutes. Let it cool completely, and then wash it with dishwashing liquid under running water. Your cookware is shiny and clean again!

Melted cheese

Put a slice of cheese on fully cooked meat, and add some water. Cover the pan with a lid and watch! The steam will melt the cheese in the blink of an eye.

No more tears while cutting onions

Before you start chopping onions, try spraying some fresh lemon juice on the cutting board and knife. Lemon juice can help dissipate the smell of onions.
